Jadcherla

Town Mahabubnagar district Telangana 17,958 in 2011
Municipality on NH-44, 17 km from Mahabubnagar and 83 km from Hyderabad; twin town of Badepally municipality. DOCUMENTED MERCHANT HISTORY: Telugu Wikipedia states Jadcherla was already an important commercial centre by the 11th century, and cites the travel chronicler Enugula Veeraswamayya, who halted here on his Kasi Yatra. His Kasiyatra Charitra records that by 1830 it was a fine basti with a handsome tank and a good temple ringed by mandapams, that WEALTHY MERCHANTS lived in the town, and that every kind of commodity was already available there; the town and 36 villages had run for generations as the zamindari of an Aruvela Niyogi family paying Rs 3 lakh a year to the Golconda Nawab, with Rachur as their seat. The article quotes the passage directly and cites the 1941 third edition (Digavalli Venkata Sivarao, Vijayawada), scanned on archive.org as kasiyatracharitr020670mbp. NOTE: Telugu Wikipedia elsewhere gives the 2011 split as 50,366 urban and 52,191 rural for the wider unit, so the infobox figure of 17,958 refers to a narrower census town - treat with care.
