Municipality (constituted 1987) and headquarters of Kandukur mandal and Kandukur revenue division. Kandukur was one of four Nellore-district taluks transferred to Prakasam in 1970; it moved to Nellore district in the 2022 reorganisation and appears under Prakasam again after the 31 December 2025 restructure. The official SPSR Nellore municipality directory still lists Kandukur Municipality, so both district attributions appear in current government sources.
