Mysuru (Mysore)

City Mysuru district Karnataka
Rice's Mysore District caste paragraph (1891 census) itemises the Banajigas - 'Of Banajigas, the Telugu (6,438) are the most numerous, then Dasa (5,410)' - but gives NO separate Komati or Nagarta figure for Mysore District, unlike Bangalore and Tumkur. Rice's Vol. I adds that the Mudali traders were concentrated 'in the cities of Bangalore and Mysore' and that 'The Ladar (2,046) are traders from the Mahratta country, and are principally settled in the Mysore District'. Honest assessment: Mysuru's Arya Vysya presence is markedly thinner in the record than Bengaluru's, and the only modern indicator located is a Vasavi-named school.
