Narayanadevarakeri
Town
Vijayanagara district
Karnataka
Small town in Hospet (Hosapete) taluk which held the District Munsif's Court until its transfer to Hospet in 1900, and which the Bellary Gazetteer identifies as the seat of the Komati community's guru and math for a jurisdiction spanning western Bellary district, part of the Bombay Presidency and part of Hyderabad State. This is the most significant Arya Vysya religious institution documented anywhere in Karnataka by a colonial government source, and it does not appear on any modern map consulted. HIGH PRIORITY for follow-up fieldwork.
