District headquarters and municipality; 165 km from Hyderabad and 62 km from Mahabubnagar. STRONGEST MERCHANT SIGNAL OF THE SEVEN DISTRICT TOWNS: English Wikipedia states the town is famous for its distinctive silk and cotton Narayanpet sarees, has the largest saree market in Telangana after Gadwal and Pochampally, and 'is also a hub for gold merchants'. Telugu Wikipedia adds that the town has a distinct trade in silk sarees and gold ornaments and 'once flourished as the principal commercial centre in the district', though it describes the present position as less promising; a TSIIC Gold Souk market costing Rs 20 crore was announced in May 2022. No Arya Vysya institution in Narayanpet town itself is attested; the district's attested Vasavi temple is at Makhtal.
