Town Narayanpet district Telangana
Municipality of Narayanpet district (spelled Makhtal in the ULB list), 30 km from Narayanpet and about 65 km from Mahabubnagar on the Mahabubnagar-Raichur road; transferred from Mahabubnagar to the new Narayanpet district on 17 February 2019. NO TOWN POPULATION IS RECORDED HERE: the figure 72,028 in the Telugu article is the 2011 MANDAL total (36,094 male, 35,934 female, 14,264 households, 366 sq km, 39 revenue villages of which 3 are uninhabited), not the town. Telugu Wikipedia calls Makhtal a 'town of temples' and lists a Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple among them; the best known is the Padamati Anjaneya Swamy temple, whose Margasira Pournami festival draws pilgrims from Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Gujarat.
