Terms of Service
The rules for using VysyaFamily.com. Last reviewed 24 August 2026. Using the site means you accept them.
1 · What this site is
VysyaFamily.com is a community genealogy site for Arya Vysya families. It holds a directory of house names, a register of gothras, a map of places and community institutions, records of documented historical individuals with their sources, and family trees that members build themselves.
It is operated by Krishna Grandhi as a community project. It is free to use.
2 · Your account
- You need an account to add or edit anything. Reading most of the site does not require one.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Do not share it.
- One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone.
- You must be 13 or older to hold an account.
3 · What you contribute
You keep ownership of what you enter. By entering it you give us permission to store it, display it according to the visibility settings you choose, and show it to the other members of your family on this site.
You confirm that you have the right to contribute it — that a photograph is yours to share, and that recording a living relative is something you have a reasonable basis to do.
4 · The rule this site is built on
Do not invent people. This site exists to preserve what is true about real families. A fabricated ancestor, a guessed date presented as a fact, or a relationship asserted without any basis does more damage here than a gap does, because the next family to arrive will believe it.
Practically, that means:
- Unknown is a valid answer. Leave a date blank rather than estimating one into a fact. The site is built to record approximate and uncertain dates honestly — use those.
- A source is better than a memory, and a memory is better than a guess. All three are welcome; say which one you have.
- Do not infer kinship from a shared surname. Two families with the same house name are not thereby related.
- AI suggestions are candidates, never facts. Anything the research feature proposes carries the source it came from and waits for a human to accept or reject it.
5 · Records about other people
A family tree is inherently about other people, many of them living. Treat that seriously:
- Do not publish a living person's contact details, address, identity numbers, financial details or medical information.
- Respect the visibility settings. Do not widen a record about a living person to public without their agreement.
- If a living person asks to be removed from a tree, remove them. If they write to us instead, we will act on it.
- Records of children should carry no more than a family would put in a printed family book.
6 · What you may not do
- Upload data harvested from electoral rolls, ration-card lists, matrimonial sites, membership directories or any other bulk source of personal data about people who did not agree to be here.
- Scrape this site in bulk, or use it to build a marketing or matrimonial list.
- Upload anything unlawful, defamatory, hateful, or infringing someone else's copyright.
- Attempt to access records the site has not shown you, or interfere with its operation.
- Use the site to harass anyone, including through its messaging.
7 · Corrections and disputes between families
Cross-family connections are proposed by one family and approved by the other — nobody can attach your family to theirs unilaterally. Where two families disagree about a relationship, the site records the dispute rather than picking a winner. If a dispute cannot be resolved between you, write to us and we will make a decision, which may be to remove the disputed record.
8 · Your data, and leaving
You can export everything your family holds at any time as GEDCOM, JSON, CSV or a photo archive. If you want your account and contributions erased, email vysyafamily2000@gmail.com. See the Privacy Policy for exactly how deletion works.
9 · Accuracy, and what we do not promise
Much of this site's reference material — the documented individuals, the place register, the gothra list — comes from published sources, each shown with the sentence it rests on so you can check it. Sources disagree, transcribe badly and are sometimes simply wrong; where we know that, the site says so.
The site is provided as it is, without warranty. We do not guarantee that it will be available without interruption, that records entered by other members are accurate, or that historical material is free of error. Do not rely on this site alone for a decision that matters — including a decision about marriage eligibility, where the gothra and sanketha information here is a starting point for a conversation with your family and your purohit, not a ruling.
To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim arising from your use of the site is limited to nil, this being a free community service.
10 · Suspension
We may suspend or remove an account that fabricates records, uploads harvested personal data, harasses other members, or repeatedly ignores these terms. Where it is reasonable to do so we will ask first.
11 · Changes
These terms may change. Material changes will be noted on this page with a new review date.
