S.Kota. Upgraded from gram panchayat to nagar panchayat in 2011; mandal headquarters on the Visakhapatnam-Araku road, with 40 revenue villages and 26 gram panchayats in the mandal. The 1907 gazetteer names its taluk as the site of the Kottavalasa and Alamanda cattle fairs and of the Kasipuram and Dharmavaram trade villages.
