The official district site states: 'This temple is situated in Vizianagaram Town and it was built in the year 1890 by the Komatis (Trading community)', on land donated by the Maharaja of Vizianagaram. Komati = Arya Vysya; Kanyaka Parameswari is the community's kuladevata. This is the single strongest government-sourced Arya Vysya institution record in the whole region.

1907 gazetteer, Vizianagram taluk: 'One wide street, called Santapeta, leads through it, and in this are many excellent two-storeyed houses belonging to wealthy Komatis, their wide verandahs supported on Moorish arches; a conspicuous white temple to the well-known Komati goddess Kanyaka Paramesvari, ornamented with little domes of the Rajputana pattern; and the clock-tower and market.' This is the region's best-documented Arya Vysya merchant quarter, and the same site as the 1890 temple above (Santhapeta / Chinna Veedhi, by the Ghantasthambam clock tower).
