Sanketha names
The community's own kula house-names for this lineage. Thurston recorded them in 1909 as sanketa namamulu — "secret names given by Kanyakamma" — and per the Kanyaka Purana they exist precisely so a family can tell whether a proposed match shares its lineage.
BRUMASISHTAKULABURHTILASISHAKULALRUTHTHIKULA
On marriage. A marriage is not made between two people of the same gothra: the tradition treats everyone within one gothra as descended from the same lineage, so a match is sought outside it. Families check the sanketha name as well as the gothra, since two differently-named houses can belong to the same lineage.
