The most strongly documented historic merchant town in the four districts. The AP urban-local-body article states Adoni (municipality constituted 1865) is the oldest municipality in Rayalaseema. Adoni was a Vijayanagara stronghold, later under Bijapur and then the Nizam, and is documented as a cotton, ginning, textile and groundnut-oil trading centre with a large central market. No Arya Vysya sangam or Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple in Adoni could be confirmed from an acceptable source, so none is recorded.
