Constituted Alampur municipality on 2 August 2018 under the Telangana municipal amendment bill; before the 11 October 2016 reorganisation it was in undivided Mahabubnagar district. Site of the Jogulamba Shakti Peetham and the Nava Brahma temple group, 25 km from Kurnool. STRONGEST DOCUMENTED MERCHANT HISTORY IN THE REGION: Telugu Wikipedia states that by the 11th-12th centuries Alampur was renowned as an important trading centre as well as a pilgrimage and cultural centre; that trade grew because the town stood on the royal road running towards the Karnataka country; and that one of the inscriptions found at Alampur records the establishment in the town of an UBHAYA NANADESI merchant (vartaka) centre - a direct epigraphic tie to the medieval South Indian itinerant-merchant guild network.
