Census town and mandal headquarters in Jangaon district; birthplace of the Virasaiva poet Palkuriki Somanatha. Two Arya Vysya bodies are recorded here, both attached to the Someswara / Mallikarjuna kshetram - the only place in this region with two distinct Arya Vysya sangams outside a major pilgrimage centre. The 6,964 figure is the census figure quoted in the article body (the infobox separately gives 7,380 for 2011).
