Tirupati

District headquarters and Municipal Corporation (constituted 1886 per Wikipedia's municipalities list); the largest city in the region and seat of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Arya Vysya community accommodation institutions at Tirupati/Tiruchanur/Tirumala are documented by the All India Arya Vysya Samajam's own site; several further choultries appear only in travel-booking and blog listings and are recorded at low confidence. No TTD-administered endowment specifically attributed to the Arya Vysya community was confirmed from tirumala.org in this research pass. NEGATIVE FINDING, checked: TTD's own accommodation/choultries page (https://www.tirumala.org/AccommodationChoultries.aspx) lists rest houses at Tirumala and accommodation at Tirupati but does not identify any choultry, satram or guest house as run by or endowed for a particular community, including the Arya Vysya. The Arya Vysya pilgrim institutions recorded here are therefore sourced to the communities' own bodies and to travel listings, not to TTD. HISTORICAL: the Madras District Manual for North Arcot, Vol. II (1894) calls it 'Lower Tirupati' as distinct from 'Upper Tirupati or Tirumala, the sacred hill of pilgrimage', gives its population then as 14,242 and notes it was 'the only municipal town in the taluk'. It records that 'it is from the pilgrims that the residents derive their livelihood' and that a hospital and a Sanskrit college were 'maintained by the mahant, the head of the Tirupati temples' - endowed institutions, but not attributed to the Arya Vysya community.
