Market quarter of the historic pete for bangles and musical instruments ('the Balepete - for Bangles and musical instruments'); Kempe Gowda's layout assigned Balepete to bangle marketing. Division II of the Bangalore City Municipality in 1894 (Rice, 1897), which also lists 'the Bale gate on the north-west' among the town gates. Of the Banajiga trading groups Rice records that in Bangalore District 'the Bale Banajigas (4,183)' were among the most numerous and that 'The Bale and Setti are mostly in the Civil and Military Station of Bangalore'. NEGATIVE FINDING: no Arya Vysya or Vasavi institution in Balepet was located in the sources consulted.
